The irrigation channel paths are
popular hiking trails in Venosta Valley which run along the mountains without significant slopes. The paths run parallel to narrow, winding waterways, which were once used to irrigate the local fields. Without these irrigation channels there would have been regular droughts due the Venosta Valley's dry climate.
Today the irrigation channel paths in Venosta Valley
can be walked throughout the year, and offer a great view of the majestic surrounding mountain range and valley. The paths are popular
hiking trails for families, moderate hikers and everyone who wishes to enjoy the unique flora and fauna in the entire valley.
There used to be 300 irrigation channels in the Upper Venosta Valley but today, only a dozen of these are still accessible, including the
Leitenwaal, Bergwaal or Mitterwaal. The trails offer great views of the surrounding mountain ranges.
